Tasting Notes

Tempranillo is the great red grape of the Rioja region of Northern Spain where it makes long lived red wines aged in oak.  The Wilridge 2012 Tempranillo is from Gilbert and Isreal Vineyards in the Yakima Valley. Tempranillo is also grown at Wilridge's estate vineyard on Naches Heights but is all used in the production of Wilridge's Port-style Estate Red Dessert Wine.  In Portugal, Tempranillo is called Tinta Roriz and is one of the classic varieties of grapes used in Port production.

The Wilridge 2009 Tempranillo was harvested in early October and aged in new French oak barrels at the winery in Seattle.  Full bodied, with a rich red color, the wine has a nose of dark fruits and toasty oak.  Enjoy it with grilled foods, chicken paella, or Spanish ham.
